French-door refrigerators are a perfect blend of functionality and form. They have elegant double doors that open to reveal a large fridge on top, and a freezer drawer beneath. These refrigerators stand out due to their distinctive features, including through-the-door dispensers and higher-end Ice makers.

We consulted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the best one. They considered the storage capacity, layout, and energy efficiency among other factors.

The name implies that the GE Profile series is geared towards those who want to incorporate cutting-edge features into their kitchen. The refrigerator is brimming with them, from an in-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a sophisticated water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Given that this fridge costs more, I'd expect better.

Aside from that blip however, this refrigerator is a great option. It has a large freezer compartment, which is unusual for counter-depth French-door fridges. It also holds plenty of frozen food, which is a big difference from other models.

The fridge has 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment offers 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is on par for a french door fridge large door fridge costing this much. It has a decent-sized icemaker in the left door. However it's not the most spacious one I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in each compartment to create a customized storage arrangement for what you want to store. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is also attractive. The LED lighting is an attractive feature. The in-door storage bins come with a third shelf that can be folded down to store tall items. The drawers have temperature controls that allow you to set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, however I found their textured plastic coatings to be a bit hard on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes all the features you would expect from a refrigerator within this price range. It has Wi-Fi as well as app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices can let you control your refrigerator from anywhere in the world, and offers a ton of customization options. It will also send you notifications when the door is unlocked as well as when the freezer or fridge needs to be defrosted, and when the filter requires a change.

It would be nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS came with Precise Fill it's an option in other GE fridges that allow you to choose how many cups of water you'd like to pour out at a time. It does have a countdown on the fridge display to show how much water you have left, but it's not as useful as Precise fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Created to appear as a seamless element of your kitchen Bosch's French-door refrigerator looks seamless and is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a vegetable compartment to keep vegetables and fruits fresher for longer and dual compressors to ensure maximum food preservation. The ice maker we tested is one of the most efficient and makes an ice pyramid with only a little water. This fridge is perfect for a single family or kitchenette that needs an elegant design and top of the line food preservation.

The fridge was rated the best refrigerator in our Refrigerators Test for several reasons. The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0° Fahrenheit and never changed by more than a fraction, this is crucial to prevent the risk of a freezer burn. The fridge's fridge section also performed well, achieving the temperature that was set for the initial setting within an hour and keeping the temperature constant over the course of our testing.

Bosch has a reputation for high-end appliances which is why it's no surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance with the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi network and Bosch's Home Connect platform. The app lets you monitor and control your refrigerator remotely from your tablet or smartphone. The refrigerator is pricey however, it offers excellent features and functionality at a reasonable price.

While the fridge is an incredible piece of equipment but it's important to be aware of the limitations. You might need to be creative with tall objects because the fridge has a limited shelf space. The shelves aren't resistant to spills and are easily damaged or stained by sharp items. The trays can be easily removed from the fridge. However, they must be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold.

The fridge has a standard French door design, and two rows of shelves that can be used to capture spills and a set crisper drawers. The top shelf to the right can be folded to provide more space for taller items. There's also a full-width deli drawer and an internal water dispenser.

The refrigerator comes with an ice maker making it easy to move the frozen ice whenever you need it. The freezer also has innovative design features like sliding drawers that can help you sort your things. It also comes with a large bin that can hold plenty of frozen food items as well as a separate ice storage bin.

Smart InstaView panel is another awesome feature of the refrigerator. You can control the temperature, lighting, and other aspects of your refrigerator from your smartphone. It's a simple way to keep track of your refrigerator and manage it, particularly when you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat but it doesn't improve the performance of the fridge. The fridge took a bit longer to chill food and defrost it than some others we tested. This is probably due to its greater capacity.

The doors are another problem with this refrigerator. The sunken handles allow shorter people to open them from the bottom. However taller people have a difficult time closing them without slamming. It would have been much better if they had a front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good option for those looking to combine the benefits of a fridge with a french door fridge on sale door with an efficient layout. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model, and it cools evenly and has a good layout. It's also a bit cheaper than the best counter depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, making it an attractive option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French door Fridge meaning Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a great choice if you want a French-door fridge that doesn't break the budget. It's a basic fridge that might not be as eye-catching as its rivals however it has enough features to make it a suitable option. Its main characteristic is the adjustable temperature drawer which helps keep food items like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge ice maker and a water dispenser.

Another nice feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. The drawer lets you direct the majority of the refrigerator's cooling power to this area, so that you can keep food items that require special attention. You can adjust this feature using the slider located on the outside of the drawer. You can also use this to set a general cooling level for the entire fridge, but I've noticed that adjusting the general settings tends to have a better effect than specific ones.

During my tests, the refrigerator's temperatures stayed fairly consistent across different areas of the refrigerator. Temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge didn't vary much from 38 degrees, and even the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. That's a good performance however it doesn't be among the top in our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. The fridge can be linked with a smart thermostat in order to get more accurate readings on the internal temperature of your fridge.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless with a "smudge resistant" finish. It wards off streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've tested.
