After a number of social media posts that hint at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally announced its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. Space Key, developed in collaboration with an unidentified artist and based on advanced carbon fiber composite materials that were sent to the International Space Station as research material, is a new project which was announced by Lamborghini.

Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is dipping its toes into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The latest project, named the Space Petron Key To Lamborghini, is a piece that was developed by a lone artist. The NFT is an exclusive piece of digital art that can be obtained by scanning an QR code. The project is limited to five pieces and will be auctioned in the coming weeks.

Space Key consists of five units. The components were built using a physical piece of carbon fiber composite which was delivered to the ISS in the year 2019. Each NFT will be connected to an exclusive digital artwork created by the same artist via an QR code that is located on the backside of the carbon fiber piece. After several weeks of social media posts hinting at it, the luxury car manufacturer Lamborghini has finally announced its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. The collectors' item was developed in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm) and is limited to only five units. It is scheduled to be auctioned in the near future.

At the heart of each Space Key is a block made of a high-tech carbon fire composite material that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research program. After returning to Earth, the block was engraved with a QR code that links to the digital element of the Space Key.

Oefner utilized a balloon with a camera, which took each of the individual shots that were then merged to create the final image. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, however the exact date and time of the auction haven't yet been announced yet.

The auctions, which will begin between February 1 until February 4, last for 75 hours and 50 minutes - the same time it took Apollo 11 to leave Earth and enter the lunar orbit. The five NFTs can be bid on by signing up online. Each one will be sold in a separate auction and the winner will be awarded a digital artwork created by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner, which captures the five different times the Space Key passed during its journey through space.
