Door Handle Replacement

Now you can prepare the new strike plate for installation. Using the wood screws that came with the new handles, screw the latch plate to the inside of the doorjamb. Be careful not to over-tighten the screws, as this may damage the strike plate.

If you are not sure whether the latch plate is in the proper position, shut and open the door to check if it latches and closes properly. If not, you will need to adjust the strikeplate up or down or forward or back until the door locks properly.

If the door is jiggling or moving, you may need to enlarge the hole for the latch in the strike plate. This is more prevalent on older doors. It can be caused by wear and tear hinges that aren't narrow, the incorrect size of the latch or a damaged strike plate. If this is the case, follow the exact procedure for adjusting the strike plate, using an iron file instead of a chisel and hammer.

Remove the Latch

The latch is a curved metal piece that slides in and out of a hole in the inside of your door. When you turn the handle, it pushes the latch forward, allowing you to open the patio door handle locks. Then remove the Cover Plate
